We are looking for a responsible individual to act as a Swimming Teacher at Jubilee Park Woodhall Spa.
The main purpose of these posts is:
· To teach swimming lessons to learners, intermediate and advanced swimmers and also on a one to one basis.
· To ensure the security and safety of the public ensuring their enjoyment in all areas of the facility and carry out rescues as required.
· To assist the Swim School Lead in the running of the swimming lessons in a professional manner.
· Ensure a high quality of service is provided to JPWS facility users /visitors, and external learners.
· To maintain the facility to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene at all times. Facilities and equipment.
· To present informative learning experiences for swimming lessons with a customer focussed approach.
· A robust working knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety and the legislation and governing bodies. (Swim England, RIDDOR, Health & Safety at work act.)
2. Jubilee Park
Jubilee Park is located just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Woodhall Spa village. It comprises of 10 glorious acres of picturesque, ornamental gardens and bandstand, highly rated camping and caravan facilities, children’s play area, sensory garden, bowling green, croquet lawns, cricket pitch, tennis club, a café and crowned by our fabulous, heated lido.
In 2014 Jubilee Park Woodhall Spa charity was formed and took over the running the pool and the facilities are continually being developed and enhanced.
3. Responsibilities
· To interact with the public responsibly and welcome all users of the facilities promoting a positive image of the facility and the charity by the provision of high-quality customer service.
· To comply with the Pool Safe Operating Procedures at all times.
· To maintain a vigilant watch of the swimming pool areas in accordance with the operating procedures and take necessary action to ensure the safety of all pool users and staff.
· To ensure that a consistently high level of cleanliness and hygiene is maintained throughout the facilities at all times.
· To patrol all areas of the facility and ensure that all areas are being used in the correct manner, making suitable adjustments as necessary.
· To attend lifeguard training sessions to ensure ongoing personal development and compliance of the requirements of the NPLQ Lifeguard qualification.
· To comply with the Pool’s Health and Safety procedures at all times.
· To report any matter of concern to the Swimming Lesson coordinator immediately.
· To ensure that all first aid equipment is stored safely and securely when not in use.
· To report any maintenance issues using the appropriate procedures.
· To undertake any suggested training requirements.
· To attend relevant training courses as required by JPWS
· To attend staff meetings as required.
· To comply with the Emergency Action Plan for the facilities and assist with any such incidents in the appropriate manner.
4. Own personal management and development
· to be responsible for ensuring personal health and safety by following safe systems of work, and by meeting the requirements of JPWS Health and Safety Policy.
· to read and respond to communications and information which is disseminated by senior managers.
· ensure all resources (including IT hardware and software) are used safely, legally and efficiently.
· to ensure personal compliance with GDPR (Data Protection Act) and any other specific legislation that impacts upon, and exists to protect, the corporate health of the organisation, whether relating to personnel management or service delivery.
5. Uniform
· To wear JPWS uniform when on duty. This must be clean and presentable at all times. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that the uniform is clean.
· Pair of clean trainers
· Ensure you have appropriate training & swimwear available on your shift
6. Time keeping
· All staff should be ready to work on the poolside at their shift start time. It is vital to inform the Swimming Lesson Coordinator if you are going to be late. Punctuality is very important –without lifeguards/swim teachers we cannot open the pool to the public.
7. Hours of work
You can expect to work hours between 17:30-19:30 Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 9:00 - 11:00 Saturday & 18:00 - 19:00 on Sunday. Additionally, JPWS pool offers opportunities for school swimming lessons and school holiday lessons during the mornings whilst the outdoor Pool is open from April - December. We also may have some Lifeguard hours between April - December at our outdoor heated pool.
Availability for weekend and evening work is essential.
8. Person Specification
Essential skills/experience /knowledge
· NPLQ Lifeguard Qualification.
· Level 2 Swimming Teacher
· Skill in the application of life-guarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
· Commitment to team-working, and respect and consideration for the skills of others.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
· Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
· Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
· Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
· Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
· Previous experience as a lifeguard/ swim teacher
· Driving License and business insurance
Desirable skills/experience /knowledge
· Previous customer service experience
9. Health and Safety
· You must have knowledge of Jubilee Park Woodhall Spa Pool Operating Procedures, the Health & Safety Policy and relevant instructions to your area of work.
· Any matter which you consider requires attention in this respect is your responsibility to report following the correct procedures, or to the Swim School Coordinator.
· Copies of the current Health & Safety Policy and Safety Procedures are available in the staff rest area.
