Effluent Treatment Plant Operator
JG Pears (Newark) Ltd is a rendering company that takes animal by-products and turns it into sustainable high-quality products like bio-fuels and pet food ingredients.
Due to continued operational requirements, we are looking for an additional Effluent Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at Low Marnham, NG23 6SP. This is a hands-on role responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the site's wastewater treatment processes, ensuring environmental protection, regulatory compliance and the smooth operation of plant equipment.
Shift: 4 on 4 off days and nights rotating 5:30am to 5:45pm / 5:30pm to 5:45am. This includes a shift handover. The role will initially be days based during the training period to support learning and development.

Responsibilities
- Safely operate and monitor the Effluent Treatment Plant to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and company standards.
- Record daily water meter readings and maintain accurate operational records.
- Carry out routine daily water quality testing, including ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, MLSS and dipslide testing, recording the findings.
- Operate and monitor boilers, biological reactors, membrane bioreactors (MBR), reverse osmosis (RO) systems, DAF plant, biofilters, interceptors and decanters.
- Monitor plant performance, responding to operational issues.
- Carry out routine inspections, cleaning and preventative maintenance of treatment equipment.
- Safely handle, prepare and store treatment chemicals in accordance with COSHH requirements and company procedures.
- Operate a forklift to move chemicals, equipment and materials where required.
- Report equipment faults promptly and work closely with the maintenance team to minimise downtime.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across all Effluent Treatment Plant areas.
- Follow all health, safety, environmental and company procedures.
Requirements
- Previous experience working within an effluent treatment plant, water treatment facility or industrial process environment is desirable.
- Knowledge of biological and chemical wastewater treatment processes.
- Understanding of environmental legislation and safe working practices.
- Experience carrying out routine sampling and water quality testing is advantageous.
- Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and report equipment faults.
- Strong attention to detail with accurate record keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Forklift licence is desirable, although training may be provided for the right candidate.
- Flexible approach to work and willingness to support operational requirements.
