Are you an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner looking for an exciting leadership opportunity within Urgent Care? We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Urgent Care Clinical Lead Nurse/Paramedic to provide professional, clinical and operational leadership within our Out of Hours Primary Care Centre based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Working closely with operational, medical and governance colleagues, you will play a key role in shaping the future of urgent care services while maintaining high standards of patient care, workforce development, clinical governance and service improvement. This unique Band 8a role combines strategic leadership with regular autonomous clinical practice, allowing you to influence service delivery while remaining clinically credible and visible within the team.
This is a 23-hour per week (0.61 WTE) position. The role is primarily based within the Out of Hours service, with one weekday leadership and management day worked during core hours at Wokingham Hospital. The expected working pattern is:
Week 1
- Monday: 19:00-23:00
- Tuesday: 19:00-23:00
- Wednesday: 19:00-23:00
- Thursday: 10:00-18:00
- Friday: 19:00-23:00
Week 2
- Thursday: 10:00-18:00
- Saturday: 10:00-18:00
- Sunday: 10:00-18:00
We welcome applications from experienced ACPs who are passionate about leading high-quality urgent care services, developing clinical staff and driving innovation and improvement across multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide visible clinical leadership across both weekday and out-of-hours services, including evening and weekend clinical shifts within the Primary Care Centre.
- Maintain regular autonomous clinical practice, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with minor illness and urgent care needs.
- Lead recruitment, appraisal, supervision and professional development of multidisciplinary staff.
- Oversee clinical governance, risk management, patient safety, incident investigations and quality improvement activity.
- Lead medicines management, prescribing governance and medication safety initiatives.
- Support the development and governance of Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
- Analyse service performance data and implement improvements to enhance patient outcomes and operational effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with operational, governance and medical colleagues to drive service development and innovation.

The “must haves” for this role:
- Registered General Nurse (NMC) or Registered Paramedic (HCPC) with a recognised Advanced Clinical Practitioner qualification and Independent Prescriber qualification.
- Significant experience as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner within urgent care, primary care, community services or a similar healthcare setting.
- Demonstrable experience of leading and managing multidisciplinary teams, workforce development and clinical governance activities.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, prescribing, medicines management and patient safety.
