Job Summary
We are a Boat Building and Marine Engineering company seeking a Junior Mechanical Fitter to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a basic mechanical background, recent qualification, or apprenticeship experience who is looking to develop their skills within the marine engineering industry. The role will involve assisting with mechanical fitting, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of marine vessels under the guidance of experienced team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Work safely and follow all company Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures.
- Assist experienced fitters with the installation of engines, shafts, rudders, and other mechanical systems on boats and vessels.
- Support the fitting and basic maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Help identify mechanical issues and assist with repairs under supervision.
- Support repair and maintenance work on marine plant and associated equipment.
- Help keep workshops, tools, and work areas clean, tidy, and organised.
- Complete basic paperwork or service notes when required.
- Work with other trades and team members to support boat building, servicing, and repair projects.
Candidate Requirements
- Basic mechanical engineering knowledge, training, or relevant practical experience.
- Mechanical qualification, apprenticeship, or willingness to work towards further training would be an advantage.
- Some experience using hand tools and working in a workshop or engineering environment.
- Interest in marine engineering, boat building, or mechanical systems.
- Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and develop practical skills.
- Good attention to detail and a positive attitude towards quality and safety.
- Basic communication skills and reliability.
Pay and Progression: Hourly rate between £14.42 and £17.14, dependent on experience. There will also be opportunities to develop skills and progress through trade rates as experience and competence grow.
Pay: £14.42-£17.14 per hour
