Nottingham Mencap provides supported living services within a residential home in Sherwood for three adults with learning disabilities. Our dedicated staff team supports residents to live as independently as possible, offering both daytime and overnight ‘wake’ shift cover. Support may include one-to-one assistance and focuses on promoting independence, maintaining daily routines, and developing life skills such as meal preparation and personal care. We also encourage and facilitate meaningful engagement with the local community, helping individuals sustain and build social connections.
The service falls under Nottingham Mencap’s CQC portfolio, so it must be aligned with our vision to be operating as an ‘outstanding’ organisation
Duties
- Provide consistent support to adults with learning disabilities, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and dignity is maintained at all times.
- Identify and respond to each individual's intellectual, emotional, and social development needs through person-centred activities tailored to their background and preferences.
- Deliver practical and emotional support that empowers individuals to build confidence, develop life skills, and achieve greater independence.
- To demonstrate effective communication skills including report/observation writing, verbal, non-verbal and advocacy awareness.
- Actively involve individuals in decisions that affect their lives, using appropriate and inclusive approaches
- To empower the individual to access activities and support residents to attend appointments
- To support the person/ group in the community
- To develop positive relationships with residents, support staff and the team.
- To undertake external and internal additional training as required.
- To be familiar with Nottingham Mencap’s policies, procedures and guidelines including adult Safeguarding, equal opportunities, health and safety. Personal care will be required, including supporting feeding, medication and using toilet.
- To undertake other duties at the request of the Accommodation Based Coordinator, so far as they are compatible with the aims and level of responsibility to the post.
- Maintain a safe environment, including health and safety within the home
- Support the Accommodation Based Coordinator to ensure relevant documentation is completed for internal and external inspection. This may include, but is not confined to, CQC compliant standards, Risk Assessments, record keeping, Care Plans, assessment records and evaluations of care.
- To preserve and respect the dignity and privacy of people and their families and observe confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant qualifications or equivalent knowledge gained through work-based experience. Essential
