Overview
We are seeking a talented and dynamic Musical Theatre Choreographer/teacher to lead and inspire our PSA juniors through engaging and innovative dance routines. The hours are Saturdays 9am-2pm term time only. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing choreography that enhances the storytelling of our productions, ensuring that all movement complements the musical and theatrical elements and is age/skill appropriate. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant theatre environment, fostering creativity and artistic expression. The right person will have a positive, bubbly personality and able to control a large group of age 4-11 year olds effectively.
Responsibilities
- Develop and design choreography for musical theatre productions, ensuring it aligns with the director’s vision and narrative.
- Teach dance routines to students adapting techniques to suit varying skill levels.
- Rehearse scenes with performers, providing constructive feedback to refine movements and performances.
- Collaborate closely with directors, set designers, costume designers, and other creative team members to create cohesive productions.
- Lead warm-up sessions and maintain a safe rehearsal environment.
- Assist in casting dance roles and oversee the integration of choreography into the overall production schedule.
- Maintain organisation of rehearsal schedules and ensure timely delivery of choreography for technical rehearsals and performances.
- Work closely with the Musical Director and Director.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dance, preferably within musical theatre or stage productions.
- Strong background in dancing with a comprehensive understanding of various dance styles.
- Excellent public speaking skills to effectively communicate instructions and motivate performers.
- Ability to teach choreography clearly and adapt teaching methods to diverse groups of performers.
- Outstanding communication skills for collaborating with creative teams and providing constructive feedback.
- Passionate about theatre arts with a creative mindset and keen eye for detail.
- Previous experience as a choreographer or dance instructor is desirable but not essential; training opportunities are available for promising candidates. This position is paid and offers an engaging environment where creativity and teamwork are highly valued.
