Fire Alarm Testing — Monthly Building Checks (Self-Employed, Bath)
Bath Lettings & Building Management | Self-employed contract | Bath & surrounding area
About the role
We manage 30+ residential buildings across Bath and the surrounding area, and we're looking for a reliable, self-employed contractor to carry out a quick monthly fire alarm check at each one.
This is short, simple, recurring work. At each building you'll test a single fire alarm call point — around 5–10 minutes on site — confirm the panel responds, and log it with a photo on our app. That's the core job. It suits someone local, organised and dependable who wants steady monthly work they can fit around other commitments.
Reliability is everything in this role. These checks keep our buildings safe and compliant, so we need someone who treats their monthly schedule as non-negotiable and turns up, every time, without fail.
What you'll do
- Visit each building once a month on a set, predictable schedule.
- Test one fire alarm call point per visit (we'll show you exactly how — full training provided).
- Confirm the alarm panel registers the test and reset it.
- Log the check with a dated photo on our maintenance app (MaintainX — easy to use, training given).
- Flag anything you notice that looks wrong to our team. You won't be carrying out repairs — just a quick heads-up so we can act.
Schedule & commitment
- Roughly one round per month, covering multiple buildings per visit.
- Most buildings are clustered in central Bath, close together. A handful are further out (Calne, Bristol, Timsbury) and reached by car.
- You'll work to a fixed monthly schedule we set with you in advance.
Pay
- Paid per building — a fixed fee for each building you check (equivalent to roughly £20/hour given how quick each visit is).
- Higher per-building fees apply to properties outside central Bath to reflect the extra travel.
- Paid monthly against the buildings completed.
What you'll need
- Total reliability — this is the single most important thing.
- Your own car is essential for the buildings outside central Bath.
- A smartphone for logging checks and photos.
- Public liability insurance (or willingness to arrange it — we can guide you).
- References and the right to work in the UK.
- No prior experience necessary — we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and provide full training. The right attitude matters more than a CV.
What we provide
- Full training on the fire alarm test procedure and our app.
- A company shirt and ID badge / lanyard so residents know who you are.
- A clear monthly schedule so you always know where and when.
- For the central Bath round, we may provide a company electric bike — the buildings are close together, so you may not even need to drive for those.
Room to grow
This starts as a focused fire-check role, but there's scope for more if you'd like it. Over time it could expand to include fuller building walk-throughs, ad hoc property viewings, and other "out and about" jobs around Bath — more hours for the right, dependable person.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with a short note about yourself and why reliable, regular work like this suits you. We'll assess all applicants individually.
