About the Role:

We are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer who can provide technical leadership across complex projects from early feasibility and design development through construction and final handover. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, consultants, contractors and clients to ensure that every solution is safe, compliant, cost effective and buildable.
This is a senior technical position for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, guiding multidisciplinary teams and maintaining high standards across every stage of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
Lead the civil engineering design and technical delivery of complex infrastructure and development projects. Provide clear direction to project engineers, technicians and external consultants.
Design Management:
Oversee the preparation and review of engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports and construction documentation.
Project Delivery:
Manage engineering activities from feasibility studies and concept design through detailed design, construction support and project completion.
Engineering Assurance:
Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK standards, building regulations, planning requirements, health and safety legislation and client specifications.
Team Development:
Mentor graduate, junior and senior engineers. Conduct technical reviews and provide constructive guidance that improves engineering quality and team capability.
Client and Stakeholder Management:
Present technical recommendations to clients, planning authorities, contractors and internal stakeholders. Explain complex engineering matters clearly and confidently.
Risk Management:
Identify technical, environmental, commercial and construction risks at an early stage. Develop practical mitigation strategies that support safe and efficient delivery.
Site Support:
Attend project sites, review construction progress, respond to technical queries and help resolve engineering issues during delivery.
Continuous Improvement:
Support the development of internal engineering procedures, design standards, quality controls and best practice guidance.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience:
At least 8 years of relevant civil engineering experience, including substantial responsibility for the design and delivery of complex projects.
Qualifications:
A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is required.
Professional Status:
Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers or another recognised professional engineering institution is preferred.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of civil infrastructure design, drainage, highways, earthworks, utilities, site development and construction methods.
Software Skills:
Experience using relevant civil engineering and design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, PDS or similar platforms.
Leadership:
Demonstrated experience leading technical teams, reviewing engineering work and mentoring less experienced professionals.
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional reports and present technical recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
Commercial Awareness:
A practical understanding of project budgets, programme requirements, resource planning and commercial risk.

Pay: £78,674.00-£103,300.00 per year
