Why Join Maguire Brothers?
Maguire Brothers is a family-run specialist commercial roofing and external refurbishment contractor, trading continuously since 1979 and working as Principal Contractor across London and the South East. We work on existing buildings across education, industrial, healthcare, heritage, residential block and public sector projects, and our advice is manufacturer-neutral: recommendations are based on condition, suitability and value rather than loyalty to any one system.
This is a newly created role. Maguire Brothers has not previously had a dedicated Quantity Surveyor, and this is a genuine opportunity to help shape how commercial support works within the Contracts department from the ground up. You will work closely with our Senior Contracts Manager, supporting the commercial side of live projects and building the skills and experience to progress within the business.
We expect this to be a role someone grows into over two to three years, with the training, exposure and support to develop into a more senior commercial position as the department expands.
Your Objective
To support the Senior Contracts Manager in managing the commercial performance of contracts secured by Maguire Brothers, so that valuations, cost reports, applications for payment and subcontractor accounts are accurate, up to date and completed on time.
To help protect project margin by ensuring works are properly measured, variations are recorded and agreed in writing, and cost information is available to support decision making at every stage of a project.
The Role
- Assisting the Senior Contracts Manager with the commercial administration of live projects, from order through to final account.
- Preparing interim valuations and applications for payment, working from site progress information provided by the Contracts Managers and Contracts Supervisors.
- Checking and processing subcontractor payment applications and invoices against measured work and agreed rates.
- Measuring completed and part-completed work on site and cross-referencing this against valuations and cost reports.
- Maintaining accurate project cost trackers and assisting with monthly cost and margin reporting.
- Recording variations and instructions and ensuring these are agreed and confirmed in writing before valuation.
- Supporting the preparation of final accounts, including collating records of instructions, variations and agreed costs.
- Liaising with the Procurement team on subcontractor orders, rates and account queries.
- Attending site visits across London and the South East to verify progress, take measurements and meet with Contracts Managers and clients as required.
- Assisting with cash flow forecasting and cost-to-complete reporting on live contracts.
- Maintaining an accurate audit trail of commercial correspondence, valuations and payment records for every project.
- This is not a complete list of every task you will be required to undertake. You may be asked to take on other duties from time to time, appropriate to the role.
