Tungsten West plc is bringing the world-class Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin Mine in South Devon back into production.
As the 100% owner of the Hemerdon Mine, we are restarting one of the world's largest tungsten resources to help meet the growing global demand for critical minerals used in modern technology.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team responsible for the mine restart, supporting the rebuild, commissioning and ramp-up through to full production.

About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Mobile Plant Technician to maintain, diagnose and repair a wide range of heavy mobile mining equipment.
You'll play a vital role in keeping our fleet operating safely and efficiently by delivering high-quality maintenance in line with OEM standards and site safety requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and scheduled servicing.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic and, where applicable, electrical faults.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns quickly and safely to minimise downtime.
- Inspect, test and commission equipment following maintenance.
- Complete all work to OEM specifications and company standards.
- Use diagnostic tools, technical manuals and fault-finding systems.
- Troubleshoot engines, transmissions, hydraulics, braking systems and electrical components.
- Record recurring faults and support root cause analysis.
Safety Responsibilities
Safety is at the heart of everything we do.
You'll be expected to:
- Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Work in line with risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work.
- Comply with isolation and Lock Out, Tag Out, Try Out (LOTOTO) procedures.
- Maintain clean, safe and organised workshop and field work areas.
- Report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Help improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Identify opportunities to improve preventative maintenance.
- Work closely with supervisors and planners to optimise maintenance schedules.
- Complete accurate maintenance records using the site's CMMS.
- Support continuous improvement across the maintenance team.
Teamwork
You'll work alongside experienced maintenance and operations teams to keep the mine running safely and efficiently.
Your role will also include:
- Providing clear updates on repair progress and equipment status.
- Supporting and mentoring junior technicians where appropriate.
- Participating in shift handovers, toolbox talks and team meetings.
- Carrying out maintenance in both the workshop and across the mine site.
- Operating service vehicles (where authorised) to attend breakdowns and scheduled servicing.
What We're Looking For Essential
- Proven experience maintaining heavy mobile plant within mining, quarrying or heavy industry.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of dump trucks, excavators, loaders, dozers and graders.
- Experience diagnosing hydraulic and mechanical faults.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent mechanical qualification.
- Experience working on Komatsu, Caterpillar, Hitachi, Volvo or other OEM equipment.
- Basic electrical or auto-electrical skills.
- Experience using CMMS systems such as SAP, Maximo or Pronto.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- Full UK driving licence (HGV/Category C is an advantage).
- First Aid certification.
