Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Motor Vehicle Technician and MOT Tester to join our dynamic automotive service team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles to ensure optimal performance and safety. As an MOT Tester, you will conduct official Ministry of Transport (MOT) inspections to certify vehicles meet legal safety standards. Duties
- Perform comprehensive vehicle diagnostics to identify mechanical issues using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Carry out repairs and maintenance on various vehicle systems including engines, brakes, suspension, steering, and electrical components
- Conduct thorough MOT inspections in accordance with legal requirements to assess vehicle safety and emissions standards
- Use hand tools and power tools efficiently to replace parts, adjust components, and perform repairs with precision
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks safely when handling large or bulky parts or equipment
- Maintain detailed service records for each vehicle serviced, documenting repairs, parts used, and inspection results
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company policies
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive systems and components
- Proficiency in using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and socket sets
- Experience operating power tools safely and effectively in an automotive environment
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when handling vehicle parts or equipment
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate diagnostics and high-quality repairs
- Good communication skills for explaining issues and repair procedures to customers or team members
- Valid MOT testing license or certification is preferred but not essential; training can be provided for the right candidate
