A personal assistant works directly with an individual, to support them with their daily life so that they can live it in a way they choose. PA’s are usually employed directly by the person that needs care and support, this will usually be managed and paid for through direct payments.
Some roles and responsibilities may include:
- Maintaining relationships with family and friends
- Going out in the community
- Support with hobbies and interests (e.g swimming, baking, shopping)
- Support with household tasks (e.g cooking, cleaning, laundry)
- Booking and attending hospital and other appointments
- Dealing with finances

Qualifications could include:
- Proven experience in care settings, including assisted living and nursing homes
- Knowledge of patient care practices, including Alzheimer’s and dementia care
- Familiarity with hospice and senior care services
- Certification in first aid and CPR
- Ability to perform medication administration and meal preparation
- Strong skills in behavior management and heavy lifting
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
