Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, preparing and dismantling samples, and repairing equipment to ensure optimal operational efficiency. The Technician will work closely with other departments to support ongoing projects and maintenance activities, contributing to the overall success of the organisation.
Duties
- Exceptional awareness of health and safety requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience of fire testing is desirable.
- General proficiency in use of Microsoft Office standard software and good computer skills.
- Familiar with use of general measuring equipment and calibrations.
- Experience in construction (brickwork, blockwork, plastering, welding, carpentry etc.), is desirable.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment to minimise downtime.
- Diagnose faults accurately and perform repairs efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts utilised.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve existing systems and implement new technological solutions.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safe working environment.
- Provide technical support and training to colleagues as needed, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Multi-tasking and time management skills are required.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Technician or in a similar technical role within a fire testing laboratory (Desirable).
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems relevant to the organisation’s operations.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics accurately.
- Experience with diagnostic tools and repair techniques for complex machinery is desirable.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively under pressure.
- Relevant qualifications such as NVQ or City & Guilds in Engineering or related disciplines are preferred but not essential.
