Diesel Mechanic – Pumps & Plant Equipment

Salary: £38,000 - £46,000 per annum + Overtime
Hours: Monday to Friday

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established company in Tilbury for a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join their growing engineering team. The Role
As a Diesel Mechanic, you'll be responsible for maintaining, servicing, inspecting, and repairing diesel pumps and associated equipment, ensuring all machinery is prepared to the highest standard before being hired out to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) on diesel pumps, generators, and plant equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults
- Service, maintain, and prepare equipment for hire
- Complete routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and breakdown repairs
- Accurately complete job cards, service reports, and inspection records
- Work closely with the service and operations teams to ensure equipment availability
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures and health & safety standards
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- Previous experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Plant Fitter, Plant Engineer, Pump Engineer, or similar
- Experience working on diesel-powered plant equipment, pumps, generators, excavators, dumpers, loaders, or telehandlers
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Good knowledge of hydraulic and basic electrical systems
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A full UK driving licence is desirable
- NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent engineering qualification is advantageous
