Great visual journalism stops people in their tracks. It's the image that sums up a community's biggest day, the video that captures the emotion of a breaking story – content that gets shared, watched and remembered.
The Courier, part of renowned publishing group, DC Thomson, is looking for a talented Photographer / Videographer to join our in-house News AV team and help create outstanding visual journalism for our trusted news brands both digitally and in print.
You'll be joining a team that is passionate about delivering high-quality visual journalism, where our audience needs come first and great storytelling, creativity and innovation are truly valued.
You'll work alongside talented editors, reporters, photographers and digital specialists who all share the same goal – producing journalism that informs, engages and connects with the communities that we serve and champion across Tayside, Fife and Stirling.
The successful candidate will be on-the-road capturing the people, events and live news incidents which shape communities from Stonehaven to Stirling to Highland Perthshire. The role holder will have a full driving licence and will be expected to attend at DC Thomson’s offices in Dundee as required.

The Photographer / Videographer will deliver high quality photo and video content that supports The Courier’s ability to compete in a fast-moving media environment.
Working under the direction of the Senior Photographer / Videographer, Head of Photography, and relevant editors, the successful candidate will apply established techniques and guidelines to produce visual journalism that is timely, accurate and audience impactful.
Key responsibilities include:

Producing high quality visual content that meets editorial, technical and legal standards.

Delivering timely and accurate photo and video content that contributes to digital performance.

Maintaining accurate metadata, captions and compliance checks following agreed workflows.

Contributing visual insight during story development.

Operating safely and effectively in the field, ensuring equipment is maintained and risks are identified early.

Supporting continuous improvement by adopting new tools and sharing practical learning with colleagues.
Requirements
Skills:
- Content creation - Applies established techniques to create high quality photo, video and multimedia assets.

Digital media production - Prepares content for multiple platforms using standard tools and workflows.

User experience evaluation - Understands audience behaviour and applies insight from audience-dervied data to improve visual impact.

Experience:

Experience producing visuals in live or fast-paced newsroom settings.
