About the role
You will work across three engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical and controls. One visit might be a mechanical strip down and rebuild, the next fault finding a control panel, the next commissioning a PLC controlled system, and often all three on the same trip. Travel is extensive and central to the job: expect to spend 70 to 80 percent of your time away, across the UK and internationally, frequently working alone for extended periods on customer sites around the world.
Around the engineering sit two responsibilities that make this a Specialist role. First, project management: you will plan and run your own jobs end to end, from pre visit preparation, parts and logistics, through site execution, subcontractor and customer coordination, to testing, documentation and handover, keeping the schedule and keeping the office and customer informed. Second, sales: you are the person our customers see most, so you will actively develop the relationship, identify service contracts, upgrades, retrofits and spares opportunities, contribute to quotations and follow them through. Twelve months in, success looks like this: you run overseas visits without supervision, your projects land on time and fully documented, customers ask for you by name, and you have real revenue on the board that exists because of you.
What you will do
- Install, commission, service and fault find mechanical, electrical and PLC controlled systems on customer sites in the UK and worldwide
- Diagnose and resolve faults across control panels, field wiring, drives, instrumentation and mechanical assemblies, frequently as the only engineer on site
- Project manage your own jobs: plan visits, organise parts, tools and logistics, coordinate customer teams and subcontractors, run FAT and SAT activities, and deliver to schedule
- Own the customer relationship: represent the company professionally, keep customers informed, and handle problems and pressure calmly
- Develop sales: identify service contracts, upgrades, retrofits and spare parts opportunities, support and follow up quotations, and grow your accounts
- Produce clear, accurate service reports, project documentation and handover records, submitted on time
- Uphold our safety-first standards on every site, every visit, without exception
- Feed field experience back into design, manufacturing and continuous improvement

- Experience planning and running your own site work or small projects: preparation, coordination, execution and handover
- Sales experience and acumen: a track record of spotting and developing commercial opportunities alongside technical work, whether quoting, upselling service work or managing accounts, and confidence discussing scope and money with customers
