At Gist, we're creating one of our newest logistics operations, and we're looking for experienced engineering professionals who want to play a key role from day one.
Working in partnership with M&S, this is a unique opportunity to help shape a brand-new distribution centre, influence engineering standards, and be part of a team responsible for delivering industry-leading logistics through innovation, reliability and continuous improvement.
If you're passionate about engineering excellence and want to leave your mark on a new operation, we'd love to hear from you.
As our Senior Site Engineer, you'll support the Site Engineering Manager in leading all engineering activity across the site, ensuring our facilities, services and engineering assets operate safely, efficiently and compliantly.
This is far more than a maintenance role. You'll help establish engineering standards, embed preventative maintenance strategies, drive continuous improvement and support the successful launch and ongoing operation of the site.
You'll also act as deputy to the Site Engineering Manager when required, helping to coordinate engineering priorities, support the wider engineering team and build a proactive engineering culture from the ground up.
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading preventative maintenance programmes across facilities, engineering assets and site infrastructure.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives that improve reliability, efficiency and operational performance.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of engineering activities to minimise downtime.
- Ensuring all engineering works comply with statutory legislation, company policies and health & safety standards.
- Supporting contractor management, permits to work and engineering compliance.
- Managing engineering tools, equipment and critical spare parts.
- Supporting engineering resource planning, including shift cover and annual leave.
- Assisting with engineering budgets, invoice management and cost control.
- Participating in site audits, operational meetings and cross-functional improvement projects.
- Deputising for the Site Engineering Manager whenever required.
You'll bring:
- Experience within facilities engineering, building services or industrial maintenance.
- Previous experience working within a large logistics, manufacturing, distribution or transport environment.
- A recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or above or equivalent).
- 18th Edition Electrical qualification (or willingness to achieve).
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Experience working safely within a highly regulated environment.
- The confidence to lead engineering activity and support others within the team.
- Experience working within a unionised environment would be advantageous.
Opportunities like this don't come around often.
Joining at the beginning of a new site's journey means you'll have genuine influence over how engineering operates, helping establish standards, processes and ways of working that will shape the future of the operation.
Alongside a competitive salary and benefits package, you'll enjoy:
- The opportunity to help launch a brand-new logistics operation.
- A collaborative engineering team with real opportunities to influence.
- Ongoing investment in your development and career progression.
- Working with industry-leading technology and engineering systems.
- Being part of Gist's partnership with M&S and helping deliver one of the UK's most advanced supply chains.
