The Role
Save With Solar is looking for an experienced and fully qualified MCS Technical Supervisor / Solar PV Installations Manager to take responsibility for the technical quality, compliance and day-to-day delivery of our Solar PV and battery storage installations.
This is a senior technical position.
You will oversee our installation teams and subcontractors, review jobs from survey and design through to commissioning, maintain installation quality and ensure our MCS processes and technical documentation are kept fully compliant.
We are not looking for somebody simply to lend their name to installations or sign paperwork remotely.
We need somebody who can become the technical authority for our installation department, manage installers, solve technical problems, maintain MCS standards and make sure installations are completed correctly first time.
Mandatory Qualifications
Applicants must hold ALL of the following current qualifications/certifications:
- Recognised Solar PV installation qualification
- Recognised Electrical Energy Storage / Battery Storage qualification
- 18th Edition BS 7671
- Inspection & Testing qualification — such as City & Guilds 2391 or recognised equivalent
- Valid ECS/JIB Gold Card
- Appropriate qualifications and competency to act as an MCS Technical Supervisor
- Full UK driving licence

Key Responsibilities
- Act as the MCS Technical Supervisor for Solar PV and battery storage installations
- Take responsibility for technical standards across the installation department
- Manage employed installers and subcontract installation teams
- Review surveys before jobs proceed to installation
- Review Solar PV and battery system designs
- Identify technical issues before jobs reach site
- Ensure installations meet applicable MCS requirements
- Ensure electrical work complies with BS 7671
- Ensure installations comply with Building Regulations and manufacturer requirements
- Maintain high standards across Solar PV, inverter and battery installations
- Oversee commissioning, testing and inspection
- Review Electrical Installation Certificates and associated electrical documentation
- Review commissioning records
- Review installation photographs and evidence
- Ensure jobs meet technical requirements before MCS certification
- Oversee G98, G99 and G100 requirements where applicable
- Ensure customer handover documentation is complete
- Carry out installation quality audits
- Conduct site inspections
- Identify installation defects and poor workmanship
- Manage remedial works where required
- Maintain documented quality assurance procedures
- Supervise and assess installer competency
- Train and develop installation teams
- Maintain installer qualification and competency records
- Keep the company prepared for MCS and Certification Body audits
- Attend and support technical audits where required
- Manage technical non-conformities and corrective actions
- Develop technical processes, installation checklists and SOPs
- Provide technical support to surveyors, operations staff and customer service
- Help build a scalable, high-quality installation operation as the company grows
Experience Required
Alongside the mandatory qualifications, you should have significant experience within the domestic renewable energy industry.
You should have:
- Strong hands-on domestic Solar PV installation experience
- Battery storage installation experience
- Experience supervising electricians and Solar PV installers
- Experience managing subcontract installation teams
- Strong knowledge of BS 7671
- Strong knowledge of Solar PV electrical systems
- Strong knowledge of battery storage systems
- Experience with electrical inspection and testing
- Experience reviewing electrical certification
- Knowledge of MCS requirements
- Knowledge of Solar PV commissioning requirements
- Knowledge of G98, G99 and G100
- Experience troubleshooting Solar PV and battery installations
- Strong fault-finding ability
- Experience carrying out installation quality inspections
- Confidence challenging poor workmanship and refusing technical sign-off where standards have not been met
Highly Desirable Experience
Previous experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Acting as an MCS Technical Supervisor
- Previously acting as an NTP
- NICEIC or NAPIT Qualified Supervisor experience
- Managing a high-volume domestic Solar PV installation operation
- Preparing a company for MCS audits
- Dealing directly with MCS Certification Bodies
- Managing installation remedials and technical complaints
- Creating technical QA systems and installation procedures
- EV charger installation experience

We are looking for somebody who has come through the electrical and Solar PV industry properly and has the technical qualifications and practical experience to back it up.
You should be comfortable managing several installation teams while maintaining technical standards across every job.
You need to be confident enough to challenge installers and subcontractors where work isn't good enough and prevent installations from being certified until any issues have been corrected.
You should be practical, organised and commercially aware, while never compromising electrical safety or technical compliance.
Most importantly, you should take ownership of installation quality.
