Kennedys is looking for a Legal Billing Assistant to join our Working Capital team based in Chelmsford. Working closely with the Billing, Credit Control, Cashiering and Database teams, the successful candidate will support the efficient delivery of the Firm's billing function. The role will involve the preparation, processing and dispatch of bills, supporting the Firm's billing and working capital activities and helping to ensure billing deadlines and client requirements are met.
Team
The Kennedys Finance team supports the Firm globally by delivering accurate financial information, reporting solutions and operational support, helping to maintain the high standards of service provided to both internal and external clients.
Our Finance function comprises Financial Systems, Financial Control, Financial Planning & Reporting, Management Accounts, Working Capital, Legal Cashiering, and Database teams.
Our UK Finance team is primarily based in Chelmsford and London, with support provided to colleagues across our global network.
Key responsibilities
Support the Working Capital team in providing a comprehensive billing service and administrative support as required.
Build effective working relationships with Partners, fee earners and Business Services teams to support the billing process.
Take ownership of allocated billing tasks, ensuring work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
Produce Work in Progress (WIP), missing time and other billing reports to support billing activity.
Support the preparation and drafting of client bills in accordance with client requirements and service level agreements.
Monitor outstanding proformas and work with fee earners to meet billing deadlines and support the Firm's working capital objectives.
Escalate complex or contentious billing matters to the supervising Legal Biller or Assistant Working Capital Manager.
Required experience
Experience working within an administrative, finance, legal or other professional services environment.
Good attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Previous legal billing experience, desirable.
Knowledge of VAT requirements, desirable.
Experience using legal practice management or finance systems, desirable.
Experience supporting e-billing processes, desirable.
