About Us
We are an established, family-owned independent automotive service centre with an excellent reputation for quality workmanship and customer service. Operating a modern 9-bay workshop, we maintain a consistently high workload, with bookings scheduled weeks in advance.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to appoint an experienced Workshop Controller / Foreman to lead our workshop team and help drive productivity, quality and customer satisfaction.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position, ideal for an experienced Senior Technician or existing Workshop Controller looking to take the next step in their career.
You will be responsible for coordinating the daily operation of our workshop, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely and to the highest standard. Alongside managing workflow, you will provide technical support to technicians, maintain quality control and work closely with our Service Advisors and Parts department to keep vehicles moving through the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate the daily workload across our 9 workshop bays.
- Allocate jobs according to technician skill levels and workshop priorities.
- Monitor workshop productivity and ensure agreed completion times are achieved.
- Provide technical guidance and assist with advanced diagnostics when required.
- Carry out quality control inspections and road tests before vehicle handover.
- Lead, motivate and mentor technicians and apprentices.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety and housekeeping.
- Liaise with Service Advisors regarding repair progress, additional work and customer expectations.
- Ensure the correct parts are ordered, available and fitted efficiently.
- Monitor workshop performance, minimise downtime and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
About You
You will be an experienced automotive professional with strong technical knowledge and proven leadership skills.
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years' experience within a busy automotive workshop.
- Previous experience as a Senior Technician, Workshop Controller, Foreman or Team Leader an advantage.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to motivate and lead a busy workshop team.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- MOT Tester licence.
- Experience using workshop management systems.
- Experience working within a fast-paced independent garage or franchised dealership.
