Job Title: Alternative Provision Tutor / Qualified Teacher – Stoke-on-Trent
Location: Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas
Pay: £17.50-25 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and assignment
Hours: Part-time, daytime hours with optional evening online work

Capital Tuition Group Birmingham is recruiting compassionate, reliable and confident tutors and qualified teachers to deliver one-to-one and small-group Alternative Provision support across Stoke-on-Trent.
You will support children and young people who may be unable to access mainstream education due to SEND, anxiety, medical needs, behavioural challenges, school avoidance or other circumstances.
This is more than a traditional tutoring role. Alongside helping learners make academic progress, you will build trust, improve confidence and support their gradual re-engagement with education.

What will the role involve?
Depending on the individual assignment, you may:
- Deliver engaging Maths, English, Science or Functional Skills sessions
- Work with learners in their home, school, care setting or another approved community venue
- Adapt lessons around the learner’s ability, SEND profile and personal interests
- Build positive professional relationships with learners who may have disengaged from education
- Support confidence, routine, communication and readiness to learn
- Record attendance, engagement, progress and session outcomes
- Communicate professionally with the CTG team and relevant stakeholders
- Follow all safeguarding, reporting and professional-boundary procedures
Assignments will be explained to you before you accept them. You will receive information about the learner’s needs, location, timetable and expected outcomes so that you can decide whether the placement is suitable for you.

- Alternative Provision or PRU practitioners
- Youth workers, mentors and pastoral professionals with strong educational experience
You should be:
- Patient, dependable and able to build trust
- Confident working with children who may have complex or challenging needs
- Able to adapt your communication and teaching approach
- Comfortable working independently while following a clear support plan
- Organised and able to complete short session reports promptly
- Committed to safeguarding and professional conduct
Essential requirements:
- Relevant teaching, tutoring, SEND, mentoring or youth-work experience
- Strong English and communication skills
- Ability to travel reliably to assignments in and around Stoke-on-Trent
- An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Suitable professional references
- Right to work in the UK
Teaching qualifications, QTS, PGCE, subject-specialist experience and SEND qualifications are highly desirable but may not be essential for every assignment.
