Job Purpose
To safely and efficiently operate machinery and production equipment within a packaging manufacturing environment, ensuring products are manufactured to the required quality standards, production targets are achieved, and all health, safety, and environmental procedures are followed.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Operate packaging manufacturing equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Set up, monitor and adjust machinery to maintain optimum production performance.
- Complete production runs according to work orders and production schedules.
- Assist with machine changeovers and product changeovers.
- Ensure accurate recording of production data, downtime and waste.
Quality Control
- Conduct routine quality checks on products throughout the manufacturing process.
- Identify and report defects, non-conformances, or quality concerns.
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Follow GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and quality management procedures.
Health & Safety
- Comply with all Health & Safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.
- Wear and maintain required PPE at all times.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Participate in safety training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Follow 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Dispose of waste and scrap materials in accordance with company procedures.
Continuous Improvement
- Support lean manufacturing and efficiency improvement activities.
- Suggest improvements to reduce waste, improve productivity and enhance safety.
- Assist in achieving production, quality and efficiency KPIs.
Teamwork
- Work effectively as part of a production team.
- Support colleagues and other departments as required.
- Communicate issues promptly to supervisors and team leaders.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Flexible attitude towards shift working.
Desirable
- Experience within packaging, printing, film extrusion, bag manufacturing or converting operations.
- Forklift licence.
- Experience operating automated production machinery.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
Education
Essential
- Good standard of secondary education.
Desirable
- Vocational qualification in Manufacturing, Engineering or Production Operations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials in line with manual handling guidelines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Packaging Manufacturing-Specific Duties
- Operation of slitting, rewinding, converting, printing, laminating or bag-making machines.
- Monitoring film thickness, print quality, seal integrity and product dimensions.
- Packing finished reels, bags or converted products to customer specifications.
- Completion of batch records, quality documentation and traceability records.
- Assisting with preventative maintenance and machine cleaning schedules.
