Role Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technician – Electronics to support the design, development, testing, and validation of next-generation products. Working closely with electronics, software, mechanical, and systems engineers, you will play a key role in building prototypes, conducting experiments, troubleshooting hardware, and supporting the transition of products from concept through to production.

Key Responsibilities
- Build, assemble, and modify electronic prototypes, test rigs, and development systems.
- Support engineers with the design, development, and validation of new electronic products and subsystems.
- Conduct functional, environmental, and performance testing of electronic assemblies and systems.
- Set up and operate laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, power supplies, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, and multi-meters.
- Perform fault finding and root cause investigations on wiring harnesses, and electromechanical systems.
- Assist in soldering, rework, wiring, cable assembly, and prototype fabrication activities.
- Record test results, maintain accurate laboratory records, and prepare technical reports.
- Support the development and maintenance of test procedures, work instructions, and engineering documentation.
- Assist with PCB assembly, component evaluation, and verification activities.
- Work with engineers to improve product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Support prototype builds and engineering trials during product development programmes.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated, maintained, and operated safely.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
- Maintain compliance with company quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- ONC/HNC, Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3+, or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in an electronics laboratory, R&D environment, or product development setting.
- Practical experience assembling, testing, and troubleshooting electronic hardware.
- Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Experience using electronic test and measurement equipment.
- Competent soldering and electronic assembly skills.
- Familiarity with PCB technology and electronic components.
- Good understanding of safe laboratory working practices.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with power electronics, motor drives, electric propulsion, or battery systems.
- Knowledge of embedded systems and microcontroller-based products.
- Familiarity with CAD tools, PCB design software, or engineering data management systems.
- Experience supporting EMC, environmental, or regulatory testing.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Exposure to aerospace, automotive, industrial, or renewable energy markets.
