Job Title: Collection & Delivery Driver
Salary: The starting salary is £33,072, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £30,063 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £32,313. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Vehicle Recovery Examination Services (VRES) is a key part of the MPS drive to tackle vehicle crime on the streets of London working in partnership with several external agencies and MPS contractors to remove, recover, restore and dispose of vehicles that are involved in collisions, those involved in serious and organised crime that require forensic examinations or those that are seized under Police powers for no insurance or unlicensed. We support Frontline policing and operate 24/7/365, we have our own unique in-house policing team, command-and-control team and Collection & Delivery team.
We operate out of two forensic car pounds, Perivale, and Charlton. Processing over 40,000 vehicles, we deal with everything, from two-wheel bikes all the way up to and including HGV’s. Our work has a direct impact upon the service the MPS delivers Londoners, and it is vital we can continue to deliver this service to meet current and future demands. Right now, it is a particularly exciting time to join the team. We have recently onboarded the in house Collection & Delivery Team whose role is to Collect and Deliver MPS Fleet Vehicles across London and identifying smarter ways of working with potential new growth opportunities both internal and externally. We are looking for a highly qualified, experienced, and responsible individual to join our team as a Collection & Delivery Driver. This unique role will provide the role holder to a front seat in supporting the delivery of our service to various policing units including, but not limited to, Frontline Policing, Counter Terrorism and Specialist Operations in collecting and delivering operating MPS Fleet Vehicles for scheduled maintenance and vehicle replacements.
The role of a Collection & Delivery Driver is an incredibly demanding role, but you will be rewarded with an immensely satisfying and varied job that is never dull, as well as having the opportunity to make a real difference to the community, to London and the Met itself. The police vehicle fleet is an important physical asset. It enables officers and staff to do their job, carries key equipment required, and provides safe transportation for the public / prisoners. The role holder will work within the Collection & Delivery pillar of Vehicle Recovery Examination Services supporting our colleagues in Fleet Services by continuing to deliver their objective of “Keeping the Met Moving” which supports the Commissioners New Met For London plan of More Trust, Less Crime, High Standards. The complex needs of modern policing requires a wide range of vehicle types.
The MPS operate a fleet of over 5,200 assets on the road and river, as well as over 1,000 pedal cycles. London is the most complex and diverse city in the UK, and our fleet is reflective of that. We currently have over 220 different types of vehicles supporting all operational commands including armed response vehicles, HGVs, patrol cars, motorbikes and pedal cycles. Customers can be broadly grouped into three strategic pillars – Frontline Policing, Met Ops & Performance, and Counter Terrorism / Specialist Operations. Collectively this covers Pan London requirements as well as National CT responsibilities.
The Role Holder will be responsible for the Collection and Delivery of MPS Fleet vehicles each day to and from Paragon Workshop. A typical day, unless otherwise directed by a Supervisor will involve parading at Paragon workshop and delivering a vehicle back to the user at a MPS location, mainly within the M25. However, this role can involve collecting and delivering vehicles outside of the MPS area (outside the M25). You will be provided with your daily workload, which can include linked movements to and from the workshop, but at times can involve singular movements, which will require you to travel back to the workshop or other locations via public transport, which the costs will be covered by the MPS.
During any down time, the role holder will assist at Paragon workshop by ensuring they help maintain the workshop car park in a safe, tidy and efficient manner. The role holder will also support the Collection & Delivery Supervisor to maintain the delivery of an effective and efficient service by dealing with queries, responding to customer issues and providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
Being a Collection & Delivery Driver requires the role holder to be flexible in providing assistance with daily vehicle movement operations as tasked by their immediate or close supervisors including, but not limited to, the collection and delivery of vehicle parts and assisting the workshop with road testing vehicles that have been completed. You will be required to have a good attention to detail in identifying and reporting vehicle defects in a timely manner including any unreported damage to the police vehicle.

Due to business reasons please be aware there is a tenure period of 2 years for this role. This will be confirmed at the time of posting, and it is the expectation that normally the staff member will be able to commit to the tenure, as a minimum. Tenure agreements are subject to annual review and may be changed at any time for reasons other than career development, such as considerable investment in training.

Essential For The Role
Essential Criteria
Must hold a DVLA driving license for a minimum for two (2) years and have no more than six points
Have a good understanding of UK road safety issues. Good understanding of UK road traffic requirements
Be capable of undertaken manual handling tasks including moving of goods and equipment.
Be capable of using basic IT equipment, including MS Office programme, vehicle deployment/navigation systems.
Ability to organise, prioritise and work flexibly to meet the shifting demands in case of planned or unexpected surges and remain calm under pressure
Ability to communicate and engage with officers and staff at different level
Willingness to travel
Desirable Criteria
Understanding of logistics planning and delivery within a critical public service. Driver / vehicle logistic requirements particularly in respect of the collection and delivery of assets to inform robust planning
No driving accidents in last 5 years (desirable)
Hold a DVLA Driving Licence with categories C1/D1 or above
Hold Advanced driving qualification or Defensive Driving accreditation
