About Us
Aberdeen Altens Hotel is a well-established hotel in the heart of Aberdeen, known for delivering excellent food and service to our guests, whether they're here for business, leisure, weddings, or events. We're looking for a talented Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and take ownership of our food offering.
The Role
As Head Chef, you'll take full responsibility for our kitchen operation, including:
- Leading, training, and developing the kitchen brigade
- Designing and costing menus for restaurant, bar, events, and weddings
- Managing food quality, presentation, and consistency
- Controlling food costs, GP margins, and stock/supplier management
- Ensuring full compliance with food hygiene, allergen, and health & safety standards
- Working closely with the Food & Beverage Manager and events team to deliver seamless food service for weddings, conferences, and functions
- Recruiting, rota planning, and managing kitchen staffing levels
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen environment
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or strong Sous Chef ready to step up
- Solid understanding of kitchen financials — food costs, GP, wastage control
- Level 3 Food Safety/Hygiene qualification (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong leadership skills with a hands-on, calm approach under pressure
- Experience catering for events and weddings is a strong advantage
- Passion for great food and high standards, with flexibility to adapt menus seasonally
- Excellent communication skills and a team-first attitude
