Join our dynamic hatchery team as a Hatchery Operative and play a vital role in the production and care of healthy, thriving animals. You will be responsible for maintaining optimal conditions, assisting with animal care, and supporting equipment maintenance to uphold high standards of quality and animal welfare. Responsibilities
- Ensure high standards of animal welfare are always maintained.
- Handle eggs and chicks according to welfare standards fully understanding equipment and facilities used.
- Carry out cleaning and disinfection duties as per instructions from the Manager on duty to ensure compliance with current bio-security standards according to Company best practice.
- Understand rules governing chick welfare in the Hatchery.
- Understand rules governing use of chemicals in the Hatchery and take appropriate safety precautions.
- Deal appropriately with any occurrence or emergency informing Manager on duty as appropriate.
- Complete all paperwork as required.
- Adhere to Health and Safety standards and requirements including risk assessments and COSHH.
- Ensure Codes of Practice are adhered to.
- Understand and respond to machine alarms quickly and inform supervisor where appropriate.
- Be accountable for own actions and decisions.
- Undertake any other duties as required to fulfil the needs of the position, as set out by the Hatchery Manager.
- Attend training courses which are deemed as appropriate by the Company.
Experience
- No prior experience is necessary as training will be given through on-the-job training as well as through our company and industry training programs.
- The ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own when required.
- Willingness to undertake other duties required to fulfil the needs of the position, as set out by the Hatchery Manager.
- Follow instructions given by Hatchery Manager / Assistant Manager or Supervisor.
- Ability to do physical tasks for long periods of time.
- No poultry species to be kept at home.
- Understand the importance of high animal welfare and biosecurity standards.

Experience:
- Poultry: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- L2 Poultry Worker Diploma (preferred)
