About the role
Code Kids runs after-school coding and STEM clubs for children aged 6–12 across South East London. We're looking for reliable, confident tutors to lead weekly sessions in schools and community venues in Lewisham, Blackheath, Deptford and Greenwich. We also have locations across Central London.
You'll be the face of Code Kids at your venue — running the session, keeping the room engaged and orderly, and building trust with the school staff and parents who see you every week.
What you'll do
- Deliver prepared Code Kids sessions in Minecraft Education, Scratch, Roblox Studio, Python or robotics (Sphero, LEGO) — full curriculum, lesson plans and teacher scripts are provided
- Set up and pack down equipment, and manage laptops/tablets during the session
- Keep a class of up to 15 children engaged, on task and safe
- Take registers, follow safeguarding procedures and hand over to parents at pick-up
- Give short, friendly updates to parents on the door and keep a good working relationship with school staff
- Flag any issues — behaviour, safeguarding, equipment, attendance — to the office promptly
What we're looking for
Essential
- Reliability above all. Clubs run to a fixed weekly slot in someone else's building. We need people who turn up, on time, every week, and who give proper notice if they genuinely can't make a session.
- Presence and classroom control. You can hold a room of primary-age children, reset the energy when it dips or spikes, and keep things calm without shouting.
- Strong communication. Clear, warm and professional with children, parents, school staff and our office team.
- Working knowledge of at least one of: Minecraft (Education Edition or Java), Scratch, or educational robotics
- Comfortable troubleshooting basic tech problems on the spot (logins, Wi-Fi, projectors)
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one (we can arrange this)
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, scouting, or running youth activities
- Own transport or easy travel between our SE London venues
- Paediatric first aid
Pay and hours
- £20–£40 per session, depending on experience, subject knowledge and whether you're leading or assisting
- Travel costs (public transport costs are covered)
- Sessions typically run [1 hour / 1.5 hours] after school, [3.00–4.30pm], term time
- Start with one club per week and pick up more as you build up with us — several of our tutors run three or four
- Ongoing training in our curriculum and safeguarding
Why work with us
- Curriculum, slides and resources are all written for you — you teach, you don't plan from scratch
- Genuinely enjoyable subject matter: children who want to be there, building things they're proud of
- Regular, predictable weekly slots that fit around study or other work
- Real progression into camp leadership and curriculum work for people who stick with us
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with your CV and a couple of lines on: which venues you could reach, which afternoons you're free, and which of Minecraft, Scratch or robotics you know best.
Shortlisted candidates will have a short call followed by a paid taster session at one of our clubs.
Code Kids is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and identity verification. Applicants must be 18 or over.
Pay: £20.00-£40.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
