The Chef must be reliable and fully competent in all aspects of kitchen duties and be able to produce a variety of menus, including catering for special dietary needs; they must have a good understanding of the IDDSI framework, and understand safer food better business.
Main duties:
- Prepare, cook and serve hot meals, 3 times per day.
- Accommodate special diets including puree and diabetes
- Create menus to satisfy our elderly residents
- Plan food orders to fulfil the menu
- Store all food safely. Rotate stock and check ‘use by’ dates regularly
- Ensure kitchen equipment is working correctly, is kept clean and ready for use
- Ensure that all cleaning schedules are completed satisfactorily.
- Comply with company policy and procedure in relation to food safety and infection control and prevention.
Person Specification:
- The Cook/Chef will hold certificate in Food Hygiene.
- Have working knowledge of IDDSI framework & how to prepare appetising meals in line with this.
- Understand Safer Food, Safer Business Food safety standards & recording
- Able to work alone in the kitchen, handle working under pressure, prioritise tasks and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Genuine interest in working in a care environment.
- Have an understanding of and empathy with older people.
- Be prepared to work every other weekend.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a right to work in the UK and have a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) police check.
