Industrial Services Operative / Drainage Engineer
Whitkirk Waste Solutions is looking for an experienced Industrial Services Operative / Drainage Engineer to join our growing team.
This is a varied, hands-on role covering drainage services, industrial cleaning and confined-space operations. The successful candidate must be flexible, safety-conscious and willing to work away from home when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating combination jet-vac and vacuum tanker equipment.
- High-pressure water jetting and drain cleaning.
- Clearing blockages and carrying out planned drainage maintenance.
- Conducting CCTV drainage surveys.
- Producing accurate CCTV survey reports and identifying defects.
- Installing fibreglass patch repairs.
- Preparing and installing drain liners.
- Assisting with excavation and other drainage repair work when required.
- Cleaning industrial tanks, vessels, pits, interceptors and pump stations.
- Carrying out confined-space entry work in accordance with approved RAMS and permit systems.
- Using gas-detection, ventilation, access and rescue equipment.
- Completing job sheets, inspection records, photographs and site documentation.
- Carrying out daily vehicle and equipment checks.
- Keeping vehicles, tools and equipment clean and serviceable.
- Following company health and safety procedures at all times.
- Representing the company professionally while working at customer sites.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Previous drainage or industrial-services experience.
- Practical experience operating jet-vac equipment.
- Experience in drain jetting and blockage clearance.
- Experience carrying out CCTV drainage surveys and producing reports.
- Experience installing patch repairs and drain liners.
- Confined-space training and practical confined-space experience.
- A good understanding of drainage systems and common pipe defects.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The ability to work safely as part of a team and without constant supervision.
- A willingness to work flexible hours and stay away from home when required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
The following would be advantageous:
- High-Risk Confined Space qualification.
- Confined Space Rescue qualification.
- Water Jetting Association training.
- WinCan or similar CCTV reporting experience.
- HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.
- CSCS or relevant safety passport.
- First Aid training.
- Manual Handling and Working at Height training.
Working Arrangements
This role involves working at industrial, commercial and food-manufacturing sites. Some early starts, late finishes, weekend work and emergency call-outs may be required.
The successful applicant must be prepared to work away from home at times. When an overnight stay is required, accommodation will be provided or arranged in accordance with company policy, together with a £25 overnight allowance, paid tax-free where the journey qualifies under HMRC rules.
