Management Accountant
Swansea, South Wales | Full-time, office-based | £42,500 – £45,000 per annum
At Castell, we're passionate about building high quality social homes and communities and we're growing fast. With a secured land pipeline set to deliver 40% year-on-year growth over the next few years, we're looking for a hands-on Management Accountant to join us as we build the infrastructure our finance team needs to support that ambition.
About Us
Castell is part of a Welsh housing developer founded in 2019 with a simple mission: to help solve the housing crisis by delivering affordable, high quality, disability-adapted homes in partnership with housing associations and local authorities. What started as a small team has grown into a business of over 70 people, having already delivered hundreds of homes across South Wales with hundreds more currently on site.
The Role
The Management Accountant is the technical engine of our monthly close. You'll own accounts preparation across the Group, accounts receivable, all month-end journals, the balance sheet reconciliation schedule, intercompany accounting, SPV accounts preparation, payroll and related taxes (CIS, VAT, PAYE), and our monthly cost & valuation reporting.
This is a demanding, deadline-driven role in a fast-growing construction business — ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, structure, and getting the detail right, while helping shape the finance processes that will scale with us.
Key Responsibilities
- Own daily banking, coding and reconciliation for Group and SPV bank accounts
- Raise sales invoices against payment certificates and manage credit control with housing association partners
- Post month-end journals: accruals & prepayments, payroll, fixed assets, and loan interest
- Prepare and own the full balance sheet reconciliation schedule across all entities
- Post WIP / development cost capitalisation per SPV, reconciling to the QS cost report
- Post and reconcile intercompany balances across SPVs to zero each month-end
- Prepare quarterly SPV statutory accounts
- Process weekly and monthly payroll, RTI submissions, pension auto-enrolment and P11Ds
- Prepare monthly CIS300 and quarterly VAT returns for review and approval
- Track Companies House filing deadlines across all SPV entities
- Prepare monthly cost & valuation (CVR) reports and support the contract summary
- Support the year-end audit, including samples, evidence and working papers
What We're Looking For
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or equivalent), or equivalent experience
- Solid month-end close experience, including balance sheet reconciliations and journals
- Experience with payroll, CIS and VAT
- Construction, property development or SPV-based accounting experience is a strong advantage
- Comfortable working in Xero and confident with Excel
- Organised, deadline-driven and comfortable owning your own workload
- A natural problem solver and self-driven
- Excited by the pace and ambition of a fast-growing business
What We Offer
Salary: £42,500 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Pension scheme
- Private healthcare
- Onsite parking
- Bonus incentive scheme
- The chance to help build the finance function of one of Wales's fastest-growing housebuilders, and be part of a mission that puts families into high quality, affordable homes
