Job Summary
Dressability is a local charity that helps people with disabilities, limited dexterity and long-term health conditions by adapting clothing to make it more comfortable, practical and accessible. We're looking for a Dressmaking Trainee to join our friendly team and learn the specialist skills needed to transform lives through sewing.
You'll receive structured, hands-on training from experienced dressmakers, learning a wide range of specialist alteration and adaptation techniques. You’ll learn specialist skills, working with adults and children with a wide variety of needs. As your skills and confidence grow, you'll transition to take on client work under supervision. On successful completion of the training programme, you'll receive certification and progress into a Dressmaker role within the team.
Who we are looking for
We're looking for someone who already has good machine and hand sewing skills, along with excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn. Professional experience or qualifications are not required as this is a trainee position.
You’ll need:
- A good grounding in sewing both with a machine and by hand (essential)
- Enthusiasm and interest in developing your sewing skills (essential)
- Good communication skills (essential).
- A caring and empathetic manner (essential)
- A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential)

Duties
- Undertake training to learn alterations and adaptations for clients with disabilities
- Sew garment alterations and adaptations in line with Dressability standards.
- Utilise a range of sewing machines and hand sewing techniques.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace, following health and safety guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding progress and delivery timelines.
- Work as an integral part of Dressability's dressmaking team.
