Our Clapham setting operates within a busy and diverse school community, welcoming children from the English, Bilingual and French streams.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager to support the day-to-day leadership of our wraparound care provision in Clapham.
This is a hands-on role combining direct work with children, operational leadership, and administrative responsibility.
You will work closely with the Setting Manager to ensure the provision consistently meets the needs of all children, upholds Ofsted compliance standards, and provides a safe and engaging environment every session.
You will also be expected to step into the Setting Manager role when required, making confident and appropriate decisions independently.
Strong leadership, consistent systems, and confident staff management are essential to the safe and effective running of the provision.
Hours and Structure
- 30 hours per week (term-time only) + optional Breakfast club (5 hours per week)
- Breakfast Club (optional), lunch cover and after-school club sessions during term time
- 2.5 hours hybrid admin per week (Setting support tasks )
- Optional: holiday camp delivery during school holidays
- Some flexibility may be required around school term patterns
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Operations
- Support the Setting Manager in the operational running of the provision
- Supervise and brief staff at the start of each session, ensuring all staff are clear on their roles and responsibilities
- Manage ratios, transitions, and staff deployment across the setting
- Act as Setting Manager in their absence, escalating concerns appropriately
Safeguarding and Compliance
- Uphold and embed safeguarding policies in daily practice
- Maintain the required EYFS ratios at all times, particularly during transitions, toileting and handwashing routines
- Implement and monitor safe eating procedures and allergy management arrangements
- Ensure visitor sign-in, risk assessment, and daily log procedures are consistently followed
- Support the completion of Ofsted documentation and BMS records
- Implement the key person approach for nursery-aged and EYFS children
Administration
- Maintain registers, attendance records, and daily logs accurately
- Complete weekly planners, EYFS planning, and menu planning
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and the wider team
- Upload evidence and documentation to BMS in line with compliance requirements
Activity Delivery
- Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive activity sessions for children aged 3 to 11
- Promote British Values and positive behaviour standards throughout the session
- Identify and support children with SEND, making reasonable adjustments to ensure full participation
- Ensure children have continuous access to water and that snack time is supervised safely
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Childcare, Playwork, or equivalent qualification
- At least 1 year of experience in a childcare, school, or playwork setting
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding, EYFS, and health and safety
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Confident, calm leadership: particularly in busy or complex environments
- Excellent communication with children, parents, and colleagues
- Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check
Desirable
- Paediatric First Aid qualification (training available)
- Experience working in an Ofsted-registered provision
- Familiarity with EYFS ratios and key person responsibilities
- Understanding of SEND and inclusion in early years or childcare settings
- Experience of leading or deputising in a similar setting
