Job Summary:
Our Learning Coaches play a crucial role in mentoring, motivating and inspiring our secondary-aged students as they engage in personalised learning pathways to complete their chosen GCSE and A Level subjects.
While this is not a traditional teaching role, it will involve providing one-to-one support to students as well as developing and delivering the supporting curriculum through interactive workshops and similar sessions.
Successful candidates will have a strong background in either traditional upper-secondary teaching, or in the delivery of alternative educational, vocational, life-skills or self-development workshops or programmes to young people aged 15-19.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a mentor, guiding students with empathy and understanding, and cultivating a nurturing environment that promotes growth and independence
- Support and encourage students as they engage in independent learning tasks
- Analyse student performance data to identify and tailor interventions as needed
- Contribute to the design and implementation of a holistic supporting curriculum, including areas such as entrepreneurship, public speaking, and critical thinking
- Organise and facilitate interactive workshops, coordinate guest speakers, and manage practical sessions that bring life skills into real-world contexts
- Continuously assess and refine the programme, integrating new educational trends and technologies
- Draw on experience from youth camps, expeditions, and similar settings to engage and inspire students, fostering a positive, high-energy and forward-looking learning environment
- Work alongside other educational professionals to enhance learning experiences and implement cutting-edge educational practices
- Maintain adherence to all college policies, championing our ethos of excellence
- Monitor student welfare, ensuring best practice in relation to student safeguarding and wellbeing
Essential Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in English or a STEM subject and/or Education, Psychology, or similar fields
- Substantial experience working with secondary-aged students in educational settings and other youth-focused environments, such as camps or community projects
- Demonstrated ability to create and deliver high-quality educational and / or self-development experiences
- Proven ability to mentor and inspire students, fostering their development in both academic and personal capacities
- Commitment to professional development and learning, showing a willingness to stay updated with educational trends and research and to continually improve the programme
- Excellent IT and AI literacy skills and proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation design software and web-based tools and applications
- Genuine interest in technological advancements in the education sector and a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of young people
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in Education, Psychology, or other related fields
- Working knowledge of best practices in relation to ensuring student safeguarding and wellbeing
- Experience of working with and/or providing support to young people on a one-to-one basis
- Experience of working with young people within formal educational settings
- Experience of working with young people with SEND and / or broader SEMH needs
- Experience of data analysis, within or outside of educational contexts
- Experience of educational technology and digital learning platforms
