Job Overview
We are recruiting compassionate, reliable and observant staff to provide Bed Watch and one-to-one patient observation services.
The role involves remaining with an allocated patient throughout the shift to help maintain their safety, dignity and wellbeing. You will work according to the patient’s care and observation plan and report directly to the nurse in charge or designated healthcare professional.
This position is particularly suitable for candidates with experience in healthcare, mental health, learning disabilities, dementia care or supporting vulnerable individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuous one-to-one observation of an allocated patient.
- Remain awake, alert and attentive throughout the shift.
- Follow the patient’s observation level, care plan and risk-management instructions.
- Monitor the patient’s behaviour, wellbeing and immediate environment.
- Report changes, incidents or concerns promptly to the nurse in charge.
- Complete clear and accurate observation records.
- Offer reassurance and appropriate emotional support.
- Assist with personal care and mobility where required, authorised and within your training.
- Maintain the patient’s dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
- Follow safeguarding, infection-control, health-and-safety and hospital procedures.
- Provide a clear handover before leaving the patient.
- Never leave an allocated patient unobserved until formally relieved by another authorised member of staff.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in healthcare, care work, mental health support or a similar role.
- A calm, caring and professional approach.
- Strong observation and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain concentration for extended periods.
- Ability to respond appropriately to changes in behaviour or risk.
- Good written English for completing observation records.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts.

- Evening and night availability essential.
- Early starts and late finishes may be required.
- Weekend availability.

- Ideal candidates should live in or within travelling distance of Birmingham.
