Self-Employed Gate Installation AssistantJob Overview
We are looking for a hardworking and reliable Self-Employed Gate Installation Assistant to support with the installation, servicing and maintenance of automated gates, barriers and access control systems.
This is a self-employed, contract-based role offering flexible work, primarily across Essex and the surrounding areas. You’ll be working alongside an experienced installer, assisting with all aspects of gate installations while learning valuable skills within the industry.
This position would suit someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work, takes pride in doing a job properly, and is keen to develop. There is genuine opportunity for the right person to progress into a fully trained Gate Installation Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation of automated gates, barriers, bollards and access control equipment.
- Help with groundwork, digging, concreting and preparing installation areas.
- Load, unload and transport tools, materials and equipment.
- Assist with lifting and positioning gates, posts and automation equipment.
- Keep work areas clean, organised and safe throughout each project.
- Follow instructions carefully and work to a high standard.
- Use hand and power tools safely (training provided where required).
- Represent the business professionally and courteously when on customers’ sites.
- Comply with all health and safety requirements.

- Full UK driving licence preferred (or working towards one).
- Previous construction, fencing, groundwork or gate installation experience is beneficial but not essential.
