A caring, reliable and enthusiastic Personal Assistant is required to support a bright, energetic and engaging nine-year-old boy with autism.
This role involves providing one-to-one support to enable him to access enjoyable activities in the community, develop independence and build confidence. He particularly enjoys being outdoors and spending time at local parks, beaches and woodland areas.
The successful candidate will have experience of supporting children or young people with additional needs and will be able to provide patient, consistent and responsive support. The child has limited verbal communication skills, so it is important that the Personal Assistant is able to build a strong relationship, become familiar with his individual communication style, and recognise and respond to his needs, preferences and emotions. A willingness to learn, strong observational skills and a person-centred approach are essential.
As with many autistic children, he can at times display behaviours that require understanding, flexibility and a calm, supportive approach. The ideal candidate will be confident in supporting communication and sensory needs, promoting independence, and creating positive, enjoyable experiences.
