An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Internal Audit Manager to join the Internal Audit team at the Cumberland.
This will be a fixed term opportunity covering maternity leave for a period of 12 months.
The Cumberland is undergoing an ambitious transformation programme with Internal Audit playing an important role by providing assurance over the activities across the organisation including new and emerging strategic deliverables.

The Role
As part of the Internal Audit team, reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, you will play an active role in leading, managing and delivering, mainly a portfolio of conduct and operational risk themed audits whilst balancing timescales, budgetary and resource challenges. You will also help in the wider development of Internal Audit‘s talent and capabilities, taking a leading role in the identification, scheduling, monitoring, delivering and peer review of conduct/operational risk themed audits.
Core Responsibilities
Project Management & Delivery
- Carefully plan, scope and resource assigned audits in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Execute audits in line with budget and timescales, to a high standard, fully in accordance with Internal audit methodology.
- Carefully formulate audit findings to mitigate risk and add value.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate audit progress and findings promptly to stakeholders in a clear, concise and influential manner (verbal and written).
- Support the Head of Internal Audit in building credible, partnership-based, relationships with key stakeholders including other assurance functions.
- Build knowledge of audit themes across Internal Audit, using this knowledge to inform the effective targeting of Internal Audit effort to the key business risks.
Team Management & Development
- Peer review work completed by other managers ensuring compliance with internal audit methodology and raising audit findings which mitigate risk and add value
- Support the Head of Internal Audit by developing the team‘s talent and maximising its productivity.
- Support colleagues within Internal Audit, and across the wider business, as an expert on internal control, governance and risk management matters.
Strategic Contribution
- Support and deliver continuous improvement through identification of efficiencies and adopting best practice
- Apply and deliver an audit plan and methodology which is flexible and responsive to changing business environment
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrable subject matter expertise in in a financial services environment
- Knowledge of financial services
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in a 1:1 and group environment
- Proven relationship management skills, with a track record of engaging and influencing key stakeholders
- Demonstrable ability to adapt and deliver in a fast-moving commercial environment
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g. accounting, internal audit or risk)
- Experience of undertaking and audit reviews within a financial services context (desirable)
- Experience of managing and developing the performance of individuals/teams (desirable)
- Experience using tools and technology to enhance audit quality (desirable)
