What does the average day look like?
From reviewing the performance of lifts and escalators at some of the country's busiest stations, to shaping future maintenance contracts, supporting major renewals, improving standards and exploring new technologies, every day brings a different challenge. Working with colleagues across Network Rail and the wider rail industry, you'll play a key role in making the railway safer, more reliable and more accessible for millions of passengers.
Throughout it all, you'll champion a forward-thinking approach, exploring ways to improve sustainability across the asset base and recommending solutions that consider the full lifecycle and wider system impact.
About the team..
Engineering Services is a function within Route Services. We sit as a central team to provide national skills and activities which enable regions and industry partners to deliver the railway for our customers.
As a large central functional team which focus on engineering delivery, we have many roles, ranging from pure engineering to project management. We design and influence every part of the railway, including structures, track, traction power, level crossings, signalling and accessibility schemes which are essential to keep our stations moving.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a highly capable and motivated Senior Asset Engineer with strong technical expertise in lifts and escalators, or a similar asset-intensive engineering discipline, coupled with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset. You'll have experience of asset management within a complex infrastructure environment and be able to use data, insight and engineering judgement to drive informed decisions and improve asset performance. Above all, you'll understand the vital role lifts and escalators play in accessibility, safety and the passenger experience.
You'll be a collaborative professional who can build strong relationships, influence stakeholders and lead continuous improvement initiatives across organisational boundaries. A commitment to safety, innovation and delivering long-term value is essential, along with the confidence to challenge the status quo, take ownership and deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Essential Criteria
- Level 6 qualification (Degree/ NVQ/Degree Apprenticeship/BTEC qualification) in engineering related subject with significant relevant experience.
- Demonstrable Asset Management and systems engineering experience.
- An understanding of asset engineering policy and technical, safety and performance standards.
- Effective communication skills, comfortable presenting and writing and producing clear documentation.
