Master Carpenter / Bespoke Fabrication Specialist
£50,000 – £60,000 basic salary + overtime
Middlesbrough
Full-time, Permanent
Bored of doing the same joinery jobs every week?
We might have something a bit different.
Van Fit Solutions builds completely bespoke storage systems for vans, pickups and specialist vehicles from our workshop in Middlesbrough.
No flat-pack systems.
No standard shelving kits.
No fitting the same thing over and over again.
Every vehicle is different, every customer wants something different, and every build requires a bit of thought.
One of the biggest benefits?
When the van is finished, we finish.
Every vehicle is designed, built and completed in the same day.
Our average finish time is around 5pm, although some days will finish earlier and some more complex builds may take a little longer.
If the van is finished, checked and up to standard, the job is done and the team can leave.
No dragging jobs out.
No standing around watching the clock.
Do an excellent job. Get the van finished. Go home.
What You’ll Be Building
One day you could be building a complete mobile workshop.
The next could be:
- Heavy-duty drawer systems
- False floors
- Pull-out worktops
- Tool storage
- Bespoke van racking
- Pickup storage systems
- Specialist one-off builds
- Completely custom layouts
Most of our work is built using plywood and sheet materials around the customer's actual tools and equipment.
You’ll rarely build exactly the same thing twice.
Who We’re Looking For
We are not looking for an average carpenter or joiner.
The person who gets this role will be a master at what they do.
We are looking for someone with exceptional practical ability, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to solve problems without needing everything drawn out for them.
You could currently be a:
- Carpenter
- Joiner
- Cabinet Maker
- Furniture Maker
- Kitchen Fitter
- Shopfitter
- Coachbuilder
- Exhibition Builder
- Bespoke Fabricator
Van experience is not essential.
If you are genuinely excellent at your trade, we can teach you the vehicle side.
What Matters to Us
You need to be confident with:
- Accurate measuring and setting out
- Working from your own measurements
- Cutting and shaping plywood
- Complex scribing and finishing
- Building drawers and storage systems
- Heavy-duty runners and hardware
- Problem solving
- Working independently
- Working efficiently without sacrificing quality
Most importantly, you need to care about the finished product.
If something being 5mm out would annoy you for the rest of the day, you’ll probably fit in well here.
Why We Have a Practical Trial
We ask every applicant we are seriously considering to spend a couple of hours with us in the workshop.
We want to see how you work.
Not how good your CV looks.
Not how many years you have been in the trade.
We want to see your:
- Accuracy
- Workmanship
- Speed
- Problem-solving ability
- Attention to detail
- Overall standard of finish
We are offering a basic salary of £50,000–£60,000 per year, plus overtime.
That is a substantial investment from us, and we are looking for someone whose ability genuinely justifies it.
The successful candidate will be operating at master-craftsman level.
The practical session gives both sides the opportunity to see whether the role is the right fit.
If you are successful and offered the position, the time spent on your trial will be paid.
What You Get
- £50,000 – £60,000 basic salary depending on ability
- Overtime available
- Finish once the day’s vehicle is completed
- Average finish around 5pm
- Permanent full-time position
- Consistent work throughout the year
- Indoor workshop environment
- No travelling around building sites
- No working outside in bad weather
- Different projects every week
- Opportunity to build genuinely impressive bespoke systems
- Long-term progression within a growing business
One Last Thing
We are not looking for someone who is simply “good enough.”
We are looking for somebody who is exceptional at their trade and takes genuine pride in what they build.
If you are normally the person other tradesmen come to when something difficult needs figuring out, we want to speak to you.
Send us your CV.
Even better, send us photographs of work you have built that you are genuinely proud of.
