Support Companion / Personal Assistant Wanted
Location: Beeston
Contract: Zero Hours (Flexible)
Rate: £12.71 – £14.71 per hour (depending on experience, knowledge, and duties undertaken - to be agreed at job offer)
Are you friendly, adaptable, and passionate about making a positive difference in someone’s life? I’m looking for one or more support companions/personal assistants to provide flexible support across many areas of daily life, including community access, practical support at home, medical admin, emotional wellbeing, and occasional assistance during health flare-ups or emergencies.
About Me
I’m a disabled woman in my 30s living with multiple chronic illnesses that cause significant pain and fatigue. I use a wheelchair for longer outings and attend regular medical appointments, so I’m looking for someone who is calm, reliable, flexible, and genuinely supportive.
I’m very academic and love deep, intellectual conversations. In my downtime, I enjoy reading (especially crime and thrillers), podcasts, gardening, theatre trips, and spending time in nature when able. I also enjoy cafés, tea and cake, and generally appreciate a thoughtful, calm approach to life.
The Role Includes
- Accompanying me to medical appointments, theatres, cafés, shops, or nature outings
- Providing practical day-to-day support at home
- Helping with household tasks including tidying, laundry, light cleaning, cooking, meal preparation, and occasional gardening support
- Assisting with medical admin such as organising paperwork, forms, appointments, prescriptions, and correspondence
- Supporting me before work or appointments, particularly on difficult health days
- Providing calm assistance during medical flare-ups or occasional emergencies
- Offering companionship, emotional support, and support with mental wellbeing during more difficult periods
- Supporting light exercise or gym attendance if of interest to you
- Assisting with wheelchair use and carrying bags/supplies when out
- Being mindful of infection prevention, as I am Covid-cautious
- For the right person, assisting with some trained health-related tasks and non-oral medications/procedures following appropriate guidance and training
Ideal Candidate will be:
- Female applicants are preferred due to the personal nature of the role, however applications from people of all genders, including trans and non-binary applicants, are warmly welcomed
- Ideally aged 25+
- Kind, emotionally intelligent, patient, and reliable
- Flexible and willing to support a variety of needs as they arise
- Comfortable around chronic illness, disability, mental health challenges, and medical situations
- Calm under pressure and able to respond sensibly during difficult health episodes
- Comfortable assisting with a wheelchair and physically fit enough for this task
- Organised and confident helping with practical tasks and admin
- Covid-aware and respectful of health precautions
- Interested in books, podcasts, the arts, nature, or thoughtful conversation
- Available for a mixture of daytime, evening, and occasional weekend shifts
This role is less about formal qualifications and more about finding the right person - someone kind, thoughtful, flexible, and easy to spend time with.
Additional Information
- Zero-hours contract with variable hours each week - some weeks may involve only a few hours, while others may involve longer days or increased support
- The role may be shared between more than one PA
- Previous care or medical experience is not essential - personality, reliability, adaptability, and a willingness to learn are far more important
- I’m looking for someone I genuinely get along well with, as this role involves supporting many areas of day-to-day life
- As this is such a personal role, there will be a 3-month probationary period to allow both of us to make sure the arrangement feels like a good fit
- Training can be provided for specific support tasks where needed
- A DBS check may be required
- A driver’s licence is helpful but not essential
This role may particularly suit a mature student, someone working part-time, or someone looking for meaningful and flexible work.
If this sounds like a good fit for you, I’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch with a short introduction about yourself, your interests, and why this role appeals to you.
