Position: Park Ranger
Location: Telford Street, Newport, NP19 0ES
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 2+ Months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £12.71 Per Hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily visits to playgrounds and leisure facilities managed by Newport City Council
- Carry out risk assessments and safety inspections in line with European Safety Standards EN1176
- Ensure the effective operation and maintenance of parks and recreational facilities
- Open and close facilities as required
- Maintain the security of buildings, parks, and associated areas
- Liaise with facility users to ensure safe and effective use of amenities
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness across facilities and public areas
- Monitor visitor behaviour and promote a safe and respectful environment
- Undertake basic gardening and grounds maintenance in parks and open spaces
- Assist with the preparation and clean-up of organised events
- Complete and maintain records of statutory testing within council buildings
- Operate and maintain the splash park in accordance with operational procedures and risk assessments
- Follow health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment
- Undertake mandatory training and participate in ongoing professional development
Requirements:
Essential:
- Good standard of general education
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within a play environment
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong team-working skills
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual and outdoor duties
- Flexible approach to working hours to meet service requirements
- Commitment to training, personal development, and continuous improvement
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Good time management and reliability
- Ability to be assertive and deal confidently with the public when required
- Operational Playground Inspectors Qualification
- Current First Aid certificate
- Previous experience in a similar environment
- Experience in manual handling tasks
- Understanding of a range of sporting and recreational activities
- Welsh language skills
