About the Role
Red Moor School — Changing Lives Every Day**
At Red Moor School, we don’t just teach — we transform futures. We believe that working with your hands, connecting with the outdoors and building something real can unlock confidence in a young person that no textbook ever could.
We are now looking for a Vocational Studies Tutor (Land-based) to join our dynamic Vocational Studies Team (VST). If you bring real industry experience, a passion for practical learning and a belief that every young person deserves a route to success that reflects who they are, you’ll feel right at home here.
If you’re someone who can hold a spade and hold a relationship at the same time, who knows that the best learning happens outside with sleeves rolled up — we want to hear from you.
What you will be doing
As part of the Vocational Studies Team, you’ll play a pivotal role in helping young people who haven’t always thrived in traditional classrooms discover what they can do. Through meaningful, hands-on learning, you’ll help them build confidence, independence and real-world skills.
You will:
- Deliver engaging, practical sessions in our gardens and outdoor learning spaces across a range of land-based crafts, horticulture and hard landscaping
- Support the delivery of City & Guilds land-based qualifications and AQA unit awards, helping pupils achieve nationally recognised outcomes
- Guide pupils in the safe use of tools and equipment, applying strong dynamic and detailed risk assessment
- Embed Systematic Instruction and a Trauma Informed Practice (TIP) approach into every session
- Build strong, trusting relationships that support communication, teamwork and personal growth
- Contribute to planning, quality assurance and annual reviews, using digital tools to track and monitor progress
- Support colleagues in evidencing learner outcomes and shaping the curriculum in line with current policy
- Work collaboratively within a skilled, supportive Vocational Studies Team, sharing expertise and best practice
What you will being
- Level 2/3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant study required
- Have up-to-date knowledge of tools, techniques and health & safety standards
- Have experience training, mentoring or supervising young people — ideally those with complex needs
- Can build positive, steady, trusting relationships, even when sessions don’t go to plan
- Are organised, self-motivated and able to manage your workload independently
- Hold or are working towards a teaching or assessor qualification (desirable but not essential)
- Believe wholeheartedly in practical learning as a route to confidence, independence and achievement
