Overview: The purpose of the Apprentice Transport Planner’s role will be to support the Transport Planning team whilst developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a competent Transport Planner.
Working alongside our experienced colleagues, the apprentice will learn how to plan vehicle movements, communicate with drivers and customers, understand transport legislation and drivers hours and contribute to the efficient day-to-day operation of the transport department.
The role combines practical workplace experience with structured apprenticeship learning, providing the opportunity to develop into a fully competent Transport Planner.
- Primary responsibility for data input into our TMS.
- Support the management of the transport inbox and responding to emails.
- Receive inbound phone calls from customers, suppliers or the general public and direct the enquiries to the relevant person or department.
- Work with the warehouse and transport teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Develop an understanding of customer service standards.
- Complete apprenticeship coursework and attend training as required.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and continuously improve.

Knowledge, qualifications and experience
Essential
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths Good communication skills.
- Good IT skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable
- Interest in transport and logistics.
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- Full UK Driving Licence (or working towards obtaining one).
- No previous transport planning experience is required.
Decision Making
The Apprentice Transport Planner will make routine day-to-day decisions within agreed procedures whilst referring more complex operational decisions to senior planners or management.
They will learn how decisions are made regarding:
- Vehicle routing
- Driver allocation
- Customer service
- Compliance
- Cost control
- Fleet utilisation
Pay: £15,600.00-£24,785.00 per year
