The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to become a key member of our Civil Engineering team, reporting directly to the Civil Engineering HSE Manager.
Supporting projects across the South East and Central regions, you'll work closely with operational teams, clients and our supply chain to drive a positive health, safety and environmental culture. This isn't just about compliance you'll be empowered to influence behaviours, champion continuous improvement and help shape the future of HSE across our business.
Responsibilities
- Champion a proactive Health, Safety and Environmental culture across multiple civil engineering projects
- Provide visible leadership, coaching and support from project mobilisation through to completion
- Support the implementation and continual improvement of MJ Church's Group HSE standards and management systems
- Advise project teams on safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements
- Build strong working relationships with site teams, clients and supply chain partners to promote best practice
- Lead HSE meetings, employee consultations and engagement initiatives
- Monitor compliance through inspections, audits and performance reporting
- Track and report HSE KPIs in line with business and contractual requirements
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and driving preventative actions
- Provide practical, hands-on guidance that helps operational teams work safely and efficiently
- Advise on the requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and other statutory requirements
- Act as a trusted advisor who inspires others, encourages positive behaviours and supports continuous improvement.
About You
General Requirements
- A proactive and pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence people at all level
- Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering high standards
- The ability to work independently while also being an effective team player
- Experience supporting multiple construction sites
- A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
- A full UK driving licence
- Proven experience in a Health, Safety and Environment role.
Desirable
- Experience within civil engineering or highways
- GradIOSH status or be actively working towards it.

Pay: £32,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
