About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to join our 22-bed residential care home. This is a hands-on leadership role supporting the Registered Manager in the day-to-day operation of the home while ensuring the highest standards of care, compliance, and resident wellbeing.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting staff development, overseeing care documentation, and ensuring the home operates efficiently. This role also incorporates responsibility for coordinating and developing meaningful activities for our residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing remains at the heart of everything we do.
This is not a standard 9–5 position. Flexibility is essential, as the needs of the home may require early starts, late finishes, and participation in the on-call rota every other weekend.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Support the Registered Manager in maintaining full CQC compliance.
- Complete regular audits including medication, care plans, infection control, health and safety, and documentation.
- Monitor action plans and ensure improvements are implemented effectively.
- Ensure policies and procedures are followed by all staff.
- Prepare for inspections and support continuous quality improvement.
Care Planning
- Write, review and update person-centred care plans.
- Ensure all care documentation is accurate, compliant and reflects residents' current needs.
- Monitor daily records including care notes, nutrition, hydration, weights, fluid charts and risk assessments.
- Ensure monthly care plan reviews are completed within required timescales.
Operational Management
- Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the home.
- Lead, motivate and supervise the care team.
- Monitor staffing levels and support effective deployment of staff.
- Assist with investigations, incidents, accidents and safeguarding concerns.
- Promote a positive, supportive and professional working environment.
- Work closely with healthcare professionals, families and external agencies.
Activities & Resident Wellbeing
- Oversee the planning and delivery of a varied activities programme.
- Ensure activities are meaningful, person-centred and promote independence and wellbeing.
- Encourage community involvement and family engagement.
Leadership
- Lead by example and maintain high professional standards.
- Support induction, supervision and development of staff.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Assist with staff training and competency assessments where appropriate.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 1 year's management experience within a residential care home.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care (or currently working towards achieving it).
- Excellent knowledge of CQC Fundamental Standards and regulatory requirements.
- Proven experience in writing and reviewing person-centred care plans.
- Strong understanding of compliance, auditing and quality assurance.
- Knowledge and experience of activity coordination within a care setting.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure.
- Competent IT skills.
- Full UK driving licence (desirable).
