As a Farmshop Assistant at Silchester Farm you will be responsible for the evolution of our brand as we continue to shift towards a lifestyle business encompassing our diverse markets of weddings, corporate events, luxury stays, private and public events and our very new farm shop. Our aim is to be everyone’s answer to the question ‘where is your happy place?’. Our business objective is to expand the offerings and awareness of Silchester Farm to combat seasonality and become a 24/7 365 luxury rural retreat for special days and memorable stays. Our Farmshop is the perfect combination of convenience and extra special treats. Whether you are looking for a delicious dinner, or gift for a friend, we have carefully acquired a vast collection of both fresh, ambient and chilled products. Working with a local butcher, to supply the freshest meat and a hand picked selection of local suppliers ranging from honey, craft ales, sparkling wine and cheese. Our kitchen delivers fresh bread and cakes daily and customers are welcome to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a drink in our gardens on their visit.
This is a very exciting and important role for Silchester Farm and the successful candidate must be experienced, self-motivated, talented, and energetic. The role requires someone with customer experience.
Responsibilities
This role involves providing excellent customer service, stocking fresh farm produce, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the shop. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fresh, locally sourced food and be able to work in a dynamic, customer-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service: Greet customers, assist with enquiries, and provide product recommendations.
- Sales & Transactions: Operate the till, process payments
- Stock Management: Unpack and display stock items
- Quality Control: Ensure all produce is fresh, checking expiry dates and removing unsellable items.
- Cleaning & Maintenance: Keep the shop clean, including shelves, floors, and food preparation areas.
- Restocking & Inventory: Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the manager.
- Promotions & Displays: Set up promotional displays and signage to enhance sales.
- F&B Service: offering a range of fresh takeaway items and hot drinks, you will be required to serve them and make hot drinks on order using the coffee machine.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to food hygiene and safety regulations.
- Assisting with Deliveries: Receive and store incoming farm products.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in retail, food sales, or customer service is preferred but not essential.
- A passion for fresh, local, and sustainable food.
- Friendly, approachable, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to handle cash and operate a till system.
- Physically fit to lift and move stock as needed.
- Availability to work weekends and flexible hours.
Pay: £12.50-£13.50 per hour
