Assistant Operations Manager
Full Time | Whitehall Garden Centre
Whitehall Garden Centre is a family-run, award-winning business, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Operations Manager to join our management team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong leadership, organisational and customer service skills who enjoys working in a busy, varied retail and hospitality environment.
As Assistant Operations Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth and successful day-to-day operation of the Garden Centre, working closely with the Operations Manager and wider management team.
The Role
You will help oversee the daily operation of the Garden Centre, ensuring that our customers receive an exceptional experience and that our teams have the support they need to deliver high standards.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Operations Manager with the day-to-day running of the Garden Centre
- Taking responsibility for the operation of the business in the absence of the Operations Manager
- Leading, motivating and supporting teams across different areas of the Garden Centre
- Ensuring excellent standards of customer service, presentation and cleanliness
- Assisting with staff management, including rotas, training, performance and development
- Monitoring operational standards and ensuring company procedures are followed
- Dealing confidently and professionally with customer queries and complaints
- Working closely with department managers to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
- Helping to manage busy periods, events and seasonal trading
- Supporting Health & Safety, security and compliance procedures
- Monitoring the overall presentation and standards throughout the Garden Centre
- Acting as a key holder, including opening and closing the Garden Centre and responding to operational requirements when necessary
- Being a visible and approachable member of the management team
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous management or supervisory experience, ideally within retail, hospitality, leisure or a customer-focused environment
- Is confident leading and motivating a team
- Has excellent communication and organisational skills
- Can remain calm and professional in a busy environment
- Has a strong focus on customer service and operational standards
- Is proactive, reliable and able to use their own initiative
- Is flexible and comfortable working across different areas of the business
- Has a hands-on approach and is happy to get involved where needed
- Is confident taking responsibility and making decisions
- Is willing to undertake key-holding responsibilities
Working Pattern
This is a full-time position, working on a rota basis.
- Every other weekend
- One weekday off when working a weekend
- Flexibility required to support the needs of the business
- Key-holding responsibilities, including opening and closing
