Help young people feel safe, valued and ready for independence.
Valiant Homes is an Ofsted-registered Supported Accommodation provider supporting young people aged 16–17 as they prepare for adulthood and independent living.
We are looking for an exceptional Full Time Day Support Worker to join our permanent team.
This is not traditional residential care. Our role is to provide young people with a safe and welcoming home while helping them develop the confidence, skills and resilience they need for greater independence.
You’ll build positive relationships, provide consistent boundaries, recognise and respond to risk and help young people make meaningful progress towards their individual goals.
What you’ll be doing
Your day could include:
- Building positive, professional and trusting relationships with young people
- Completing meaningful key work sessions based around individual goals
- Supporting young people with education, employment, training and appointments
- Teaching practical independent living skills including cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning and managing a home
- Supporting young people to develop healthy routines and positive use of their time
- Encouraging engagement with activities and the wider community
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and listening when a young person needs to talk
- Maintaining clear, appropriate and consistent professional boundaries
- Understanding and following individual support plans and risk assessments
- Recognising safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately
- Responding calmly and professionally to incidents or challenging situations
- Completing accurate daily records, handovers, key work records and incident reports
- Liaising professionally with social workers and other agencies
- Supporting young people to have a voice in decisions about their lives and support
- Helping maintain a safe, welcoming and well-run home
Who we’re looking for
Experience is valuable, but character, judgement and values matter enormously to us.
We’re looking for someone who is:
Kind – you genuinely care about young people and how they experience their home.
Calm – you can remain composed when somebody else is struggling.
Consistent – you understand that young people need adults who mean what they say and follow through.
Professional – you understand boundaries, confidentiality and accountability.
Safeguarding-minded – you’re professionally curious, notice when something doesn’t feel right and understand your responsibility to act.
Reliable – young people and colleagues need to know you’ll be there when you say you will.
Respectful – you treat every young person as an individual and with dignity.
Growth-focused – you encourage young people to develop their own skills rather than simply doing things for them.
Experience
Previous experience in supported accommodation, children’s residential care, youth work, homelessness, education, mental health, social care or another relevant setting would be beneficial.
However, we don’t believe that years in the sector automatically make somebody an excellent Support Worker.
We also welcome candidates with strong transferable experience who demonstrate the right values, maturity, judgement and potential to work safely and effectively with young people.
Our approach
Everything we do at Valiant Homes is built around:
Safety | Kindness | Respect | Independence | Growth | Excellence | Belonging
Our mission is:
Helping young people feel safe, valued and prepared for independent living.
We want our homes to feel like homes, not institutions.
That means creating warmth and belonging alongside clear expectations, appropriate boundaries and excellent safeguarding practice.
Sometimes excellent support means helping a young person attend an appointment or learn to cook.
Sometimes it means listening.
Sometimes it means having a difficult conversation, maintaining a boundary or recognising a safeguarding concern.
And sometimes it simply means being the reliable adult who turns up, stays calm and does what they said they would do.
Safer recruitment
Because this role involves working with young people, successful applicants will be subject to Valiant Homes’ safer-recruitment procedures.
This includes appropriate identity and right-to-work checks, employment-history checks, satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS check, together with any other checks required for the role.
All offers of employment are conditional upon satisfactory completion of the required pre-employment checks.
Interested?
We’re currently recruiting one permanent Full Time Day Support Worker and are interviewing shortly.
If you’re someone who combines warmth with boundaries, compassion with professionalism and kindness with accountability, we’d love to hear from you.
