Brownlee Preschool by Little Rays is seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN Assistant to provide dedicated one-to-one support for a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within our preschool setting.
The successful candidate will work closely with the child, preschool staff and relevant professionals to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the preschool session. The role will focus on helping the child to engage fully in daily activities and supporting their learning, communication, social development, independence and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support to the child throughout the preschool session.
- Support the child to participate in play, learning and daily routines.
- Follow agreed support strategies and individual plans.
- Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
- Encourage independence while providing appropriate assistance where required.
- Observe and record progress and share relevant information with the preschool team.
- Work closely with staff, parents and relevant professionals to provide consistent support.
- Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and preschool policies.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a minimum Level 2 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Northern Ireland), or an equivalent recognised childcare qualification.
- A good understanding of child development, safeguarding and inclusive practice.
- Ability to provide patient, consistent and sensitive one-to-one support.
Desirable Criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Northern Ireland), or equivalent recognised childcare qualification.
- A recognised qualification or accredited training relevant to Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- A minimum of one year’s experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- Previous experience providing one-to-one support to a child with additional needs within an early years or preschool setting.
We are looking for someone who is compassionate, dependable and committed to building a positive and supportive relationship with the child and helping them reach their individual potential.
Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 9.00am–12.30pm
Hours: 17.5 hours per week. Hours may be increased or decreased depending on the individual needs of the child and the requirements of the setting.
Pay: Up to £14.00 per hour
