As a Senior Research & Development Design Engineer, you will take responsibility for ensuring that our R&D test capability evolves to meet the demands of the Engineering Group, both now and in the future.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to every aspect of a Formula 1 race car from a research and development perspective. You will be involved throughout the entire development lifecycle, from early proof-of-concept studies and technology evaluation through to design, testing, validation, and implementation.
Working across multiple engineering disciplines, you will gain exposure to and touch almost every component and sub-assembly of the race car. You will play a key role in identifying, developing, and delivering innovative solutions that enhance performance, reliability, and competitive advantage, while helping to shape the team's future technical capabilities.
Responsible for the design of interfaces between race car components and all test rigs in the R&D Lab, Dyno, Brake Dyno and Heat rejection facility, to enable performance testing, reliability prove-out and production sign-off.
Support the Lead Design Engineer in the prioritisation, planning, and coordination of R&D projects, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to meet project objectives, business priorities, and delivery timelines.
Mentor and support younger design engineers within the R&D design team, providing technical guidance, development opportunities, and day-to-day supervision to ensure successful project delivery, achievement of learning objectives, and integration into the team.
Responsibility for managing all R&D related design-based faults and issues. This includes implementing immediate containment to minimise impact, conducting root cause analysis, and developing robust long-term solutions.
Design proof-of-concept installations to demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of new technologies.
Application of engineering principles and analytical techniques to support robust, right-first-time design solutions
Support and participate with in-house testing activities as required, with responsibility for the commissioning and validation of new test rigs and the execution of first-off component tests.
Support trackside activities through the design, development, and continuous improvement of pit stop and garage equipment, ensuring solutions are safe, reliable, ergonomic, and optimised for operational efficiency
